We are launching this new Amaurea Press website at an exciting time for us. This year has already got off to a great start with the publication of the new memoir by Lisa St Aubin de Terán (Better Broken Than New) – her first new writing in nearly twenty years. Coinciding with this we began publishing a series of new editions of Lisa’s earlier work – starting with her first four, Keepers of the House (winner of the Somerset Maugham award), The Slow Train to Milan (winner of the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize), The Tiger and The Bay of Silence. In November we will be publishing a new novel by Lisa (The Hobby), along with further new editions of her back titles (Black Idol, The Marble Mountain, Off The Rails, Joanna, Nocturne and The Hacienda). Look out for new of their release.
We are continuing to develop Amaurea’s line of commodity history-related titles. Building on the successful publication of English and Spanish editions of a new and expanded edition of Jean Stubbs’ classic study of Cuban tobacco last year (Tobacco on the Periphery), we are now working on a compilation of Jean’s subsequent writings on Cuban tobacco and the global Habano, which will be released later this year. Discussions are taking place with other commodity historians, as we seek to expand our offering in particular of new editions of long-established works, and collections of historical research papers.
From the outset, books related to Cuba have been an important focus for Amaurea Press, and this shows no signs of abating. Later this year, we will be bringing out Jazz Cuba – a photographic record of Jazz Plaza (Havana’s annual international jazz festival), seen through the work of seven photographers. We have also recently commissioned an English translation of Anna Lidia Vega Serova’s acclaimed novel, Anima Fatua – we hope to be publishing this in 2025, when it will join the other work by Anna Lidia that Amaurea has already published (Un jardín en miniatura and Sideways Glance).
Our intention is for this blog to become a platform where we can share not only publication news. We will be posting insights into our authors and their work, as well as the wider context in which these titles have been written. If you have a book that you think might fit well with Amaurea, then please do consider submitting it to us for consideration (publications@amaurea.co.uk). Amaurea Press works with authors from initial editorial input, through design and typesetting, to publication, distribution and beyond. Our approach is one of collaborative creative partnership with our authors.
